About County Clare

County Clare is located on the west coast of Ireland. It's a county renowned for its sheer beauty, dramatic coastline and charming little villages. Clare is surrounded by Galway Bay to the north, the Atlantic Ocean on the west and the River Shannon, Ireland's longest river to the east, flowing from Lough Derg all the way down to the ocean at the tip of Clare's Loop Head.

 

What to see and do

Also known as 'The Banner County' Clare is home to a series of natural wonders like the magestic Cliffs of Moher, Aillwee Cave and the unusual Burren landscape - a karst surface where alpine and Mediterranean plants rare to Ireland grow side by side!

Other top attractions to visit while in County Clare include Bunratty Castle and Folk Park, Craggaunowen, Quin Abbey and Poulnabrone Dolmen.

Of course County Clare has the perfect backdrop for all types of outdoor activities as it has lots of woods, rivers, lakes and miles of coastline dotted with blue flag beaches. How to get to County Clare

County Clare is situated about mid-way on Ireland's western coastline, making is a great base for touring. It's only a short drive across the border to Galway where you can visit Galway city and Connemara and you're also within easy reach of County Kerry - just hop on the car ferry across the River Shannon and you're there!

Of course County Clare is home to Shannon International Airport so if you're touching down here then you'll be just a short drive from all that County Clare has to offer.
 

 

Featured Attraction - Aillwee Cave

Aillwee Caves are located in Ballyvaughan in County Clare and are perhaps one of the oldest caves in Ireland. The caves have over 1km of passageways, a river, a waterfall, animal remains and some superb stalactites and stalacmites. Read more on Aillwee Cave
